Motivation and inspiration in corporate trainings

We loved Elearning Industry’s recent article on corporate learners’ motivation and inspiration, and as a reflection we have collected some SimTeam characteristics that can help you to apply those mentioned factors in action. How to create a corporate training that motivates and inspires them to engage better?

1. Public recognition

Everybody likes to show off their achievements, what better way you can find for this then creating year-end reports in the simulation, so that every team can see where they belong in the virtual leaderboard of the game?! The best part? Market dynamics in the game can change from one minute to the other, so a market leader now is not necessarily a market leader in the next year!

2. Social interaction

SimTeam is basically built on team dynamics, where participants need to communicate with each other in order to lead a successful business in the game. The simulation can also be extended with presentations, so that each team can introduce their results to the others, and learn from other teams’ mistakes and best practices!

3. Learning goal achievement

When creating a new simulation for your learners, you can set up goals for each teams based on your needs and the course’s targets. If your training is focused on financial management, make sure to set goals for financial indicators like profit margins, earnings per share, return on equity and so on. Are you doing an HR training? Let’s focus on the virtual employees’ competences, demands and performance. 4. Active involvement within the organization

Feedback, feedback and feedback. Each team member in SimTeam plays a crucial role in the virtual company’s success. Their opinions matter, and make a huge difference on team decisions every time. Make sure to provide feedback for the users when the participants have good ideas to improve their performance, or even when they have an argument about different situations along the way.

5. Exciting and enlightening online training experiences

Nothing beats learning by doing. With a simulation you can transfer knowledge in a way the participants don’t even expect it. They simply don’t feel like in a face-to-face training situation where they are obliged to learn. They are deeply involved in the simulation and learn the best-practices and key takeaways by playing an exciting serious game.

6. Personal development

After investigating the participants’ development needs, you can easily create a simulation where each member can have a role in what they can develop and extend their skills. Employees will recognize along the way that they are moved out of their comfort zone, and they can be made to focus on aspects they need to improve in.

7. Incentives

Based on our suggestions, and in ways that only your imagination can limit, create custom incentives for the participants. Make sure they have something to fight for. For the majority, the friendly competition among the teams and a leaderboard is enough incentive for a fun and motivated training, but others might be more motivated by badges or certificates, design these for them if you feel like it’s necessary.
